Plan responsibly
Before You Build
This project may be subject to local permit, zoning, site, or structural requirements.
- Verify fire resistanceUse the complete tested/listed fire-rated assembly where required.
- Verify exposureUse locally accepted products for wet, damp, mold, flood, exterior, or other exposure.
- Verify fasteningConfirm framing, backing, orientation, fastening, joints, finish, manufacturer instructions, and local rules.
- Confirm permit scopeAltered assemblies, fire separation, occupancy, and utility work may affect permits.
Entered-rate planning only: User-entered prices are not a quote.
No assembly is selected: Fire, sound, moisture, framing, finish, and exposure need project verification.

Application and finishing of gypsum panel products: GA-216 is industry guidance, not proof of local adoption or a tested/listed assembly. This calculator does not select an assembly.

Methodology
How we calculate this
Perimeter times height gives wall area; door and window openings are deducted from wall area, optional ceiling area is added, and the entered waste percentage is divided by 100 before it is applied. Whole sheets round up. Entered sheet, labor, and allowance ranges produce the total range.
sheets = ceil(((2 × (L + W) × H − openings + ceiling) × (1 + wastePercentage / 100)) ÷ sheet area)
Verify fire-rated assemblies
Where fire resistance is required, use the complete tested/listed fire-rated assembly and verify current local adoption; panel labels alone are insufficient.
Match moisture and exposure
Verify products and details for moisture, mold, wet-area, flood, exterior, or other exposure conditions; this calculator does not select a panel.
Confirm fastening and finish scope
Verify framing, backing, fastening, joints, accessories, finish level, manufacturer instructions, local code, and permit scope.
