Before You Build

This project may be subject to local permit, zoning, site, or structural requirements.

  • Verify permit and opening scopeConfirm permits and whether opening changes need engineering.
  • Verify life-safety rulesCheck locally adopted egress, safety-glazing, fall-protection, and energy rules.
  • Verify energy criteriaReview energy criteria and product labels, then confirm local and manufacturer requirements.
  • Verify water managementConfirm flashing, drainage, air sealing, and trim with local professionals and manufacturer instructions.

General checks only: This does not establish adopted local law or compliance; the calculator performs user-entered cost arithmetic.

No opening determination: It does not determine egress, safety glazing, structural changes, installation, or compliance. Verify locally.

Entered-price planning only: Entered prices are not validated local-market prices.

Local requirements may differ. No project-specific model-code reference is asserted here.

Methodology

How we calculate this

For each group, quantity multiplies the entered per-window product and installation ranges. Nominal opening area uses entered inches divided by 144. A separate allowance is added once.

total = Σ(quantity × product range + quantity × installation range) + allowance range

Check life-safety requirements

Verify egress, emergency escape/rescue openings, safety glazing, tempered-glass locations, fall protection, and local amendments for each location.

Check envelope and energy scope

Verify energy criteria, product ratings, flashing, water management, air sealing, trim, and manufacturer instructions locally.

Check structural and permit scope

Opening-size changes, damaged framing, structural headers, permits, and inspections are outside this arithmetic and may require qualified review.

Common questions

Window Replacement Cost Calculator FAQ

Are the entered prices verified as local market prices?

No. Use current, comparably scoped local supplier and installer information.

Does area determine the price?

No. Area is reported for transparency; the calculation uses your per-window group prices.

Does this verify egress or safety glazing?

No. Verify each opening's location, operation, clear opening, glazing, and locally adopted requirements.

What belongs in the allowance?

Only items you explicitly scope, such as disposal, trim, permit, repair, or access costs not included in group prices.
