Concrete planning tool

Concrete Driveway Cost Calculator

Estimate the concrete volume for a rectangular driveway and, if you have a current supplier quote, apply that price per cubic yard. Without a user-entered quote, cost is honestly shown as unavailable.

Material cost calculator

Estimate driveway material

Concrete cost stays unavailable unless you enter a current supplier price. Other driveway costs are excluded.

Use only your current material quote. Leave blank if unknown.

Plan responsibly

Before You Build

This project may be subject to local permit, zoning, site, or structural requirements.

  • Zoning and property constraintsVerify driveway location, property-line, sight-distance, easement, lot-coverage, and impervious-surface rules locally.
  • Utilities and right-of-wayContact 811 before excavation and verify curb-cut, apron, sidewalk, drainage, and right-of-way requirements.
  • Permits and inspectionsConfirm locally required permits, contractor qualifications, pavement specifications, drainage controls, and inspections.

Local requirements control: Model-code references do not confirm the code edition, amendments, zoning rules, permit requirements, or site criteria adopted for your project.

Local design controls: Do not treat the cost estimate as a universal driveway thickness, reinforcement, slope, setback, drainage, accessibility, or permit determination.

Limited driveway reference: This IRC section mentions driveways only within a vapor-retarder exception. It is not a comprehensive driveway design or permitting standard.

Local requirements may differ. A model-code reference does not confirm the code edition, amendments, zoning rules, or permit requirements adopted where the project is located.

Methodology

How we calculate this

Plan Otter converts dimensions to feet, models the driveway as a rectangular prism, divides cubic feet by 27, and applies waste. If and only if the user enters a price per cubic yard, the adjusted quantity is multiplied by that price for a material-only estimate.

adjusted yd³ × user-entered $/yd³ = concrete material cost

This is material-only cost

The cost result excludes base preparation, reinforcement, forms, demolition, grading, drainage, delivery and short-load fees, pumping, labor, finishing, curing, permits, taxes, and access constraints.

Use a real current quote

Concrete prices are local and time-sensitive. Leave price blank until you have a supplier quote; Plan Otter does not create a default, range, or local-price claim.

Confirm driveway design

Thickness, base, reinforcement, joints, slope, drainage, loads, soil, climate, and local requirements affect design and cost. This calculator does not provide structural specifications.

Worked examples

Concrete Driveway Cost Calculator examples

40 ft × 10 ft driveway

At 5 inches thick with 10% waste, the concrete material quantity is 6.79 yd³; cost remains unavailable without a quote.

40 ft × 20 ft driveway

At 5 inches thick with 10% waste, the concrete material quantity is 13.58 yd³; excluded project costs still require local estimates.

Common questions

Concrete Driveway Cost Calculator FAQ

How much does a concrete driveway cost?

A defensible total depends on local material and labor quotes plus site-specific scope. This tool calculates concrete quantity and only computes material cost when you enter your own current price per cubic yard.

What costs are excluded?

Base, reinforcement, forms, demolition, grading, drainage, delivery fees, pumping, labor, finishing, curing, permits, taxes, and access-related work are excluded.

Why is local pricing unavailable?

Plan Otter has no verified local pricing source configured for this tool. Showing unavailable is more accurate than presenting a fabricated national or local number.

What thickness should a driveway be?

Thickness depends on vehicle loads, base, soil, reinforcement, climate, drainage, and local requirements. Enter a project-specific value confirmed through appropriate guidance.

Can I use the estimate to order concrete?

Use the related ready-mix tool to round to a supplier increment, then confirm mix design, quantity, minimums, fees, access, and delivery details directly.
